ADSL
WHAT YOU NEED
A local telephone exchange that supports ADSL, Telkom installation of
an ADSL line, an ADSL modem and an ISP.
WHAT IS ADSL?
ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) transforms an ordinary telephone
line into a dedicated channel for super-fast Internet access up to 1024
Kilobits per second. Since the frequency range for speech on a telephone
line is so narrow, there is a lot of unused bandwidth. ADSL takes advantage
of this unused bandwidth to transfer data, which is why it accelerates
your Internet access so dramatically.
BENEFITS OF ADSL
- Lightning-fast Internet access
- Permanent, hassle-free Internet access 24/7.
- Flat rate for Internet access
- Browse the web and chat on the phone at the
same time!
REQUIREMENTS FOR ADSL
Your premises
If you live in an area where Telkom supports ADSL,
the physical telephone wire leading from your premises to your local exchange
must meet certain conditions, including the length and quality of the
wire. If Telkom approves your ADSL order, they will install the necessary
equipment at your premises.
Your computer
Your computer will need an empty PCI slot if you'll
be using an internal ADSL modem, or an unused USB port if you'll be using
an external ADSL modem. You can buy an ADSL modem from most computer stores,
otherwise we can also assit in this regard. Our Routers are 4 port and
wireless, allowing for wireless internet.
Internet Service Provider
Once you have a working ADSL line, you need to
sign up with an ISP, like NETPOSITION to access the Internet. We are able
to provide bandwidth in steps of 1 GB ranging up to 30 GB.
